A bit of history of:

SANTA MARIA NOVELLA TRAIN STATION in Florence

The train station is located behind the Basilica of S. Maria Novella. It was built between 1933 and 1935 and is based upon a project by the “Gruppo Toscano,” directed by G Michelucci. It was intended to be a modern structure in pietra forte in perfect harmony with the centuries-old constructions surrounding it. The inside roof is made of glass, the floor is in marble and serpentine and there are many benches, baggage rests, and small bronze drinking fountains. You’ll find 2 tempera landscape paintings by O. Bosai on the walls.
